Coverage by state
Official state feeds only report counts. They don't call races, so state-sourced races show as counting until a race-calling source is added.

How races are marked
Called: the source itself declared a winner.
Decided by the count: the second-place candidate would still lose after taking every vote the source expects is left. We only mark this when the source gives an expected-vote estimate. Precincts reporting alone is not enough, because mail and provisional ballots are counted after precincts close.
Counting: votes are in but the race is open. The map shows these in a tint of the leader's colour that deepens as more is counted; locked-in races are solid with a check mark.
Locked in: seats not on the ballot this year plus races called or decided. Senate: 32 Democrats, 2 independents who caucus with them and 31 Republicans aren't up. Governors: 6 Democrats and 8 Republicans aren't up.
On track (top of the overview): locked-in seats plus current leads reach a majority. Leads can still flip.
When more than one source reports a race, a source that called it wins, then the one with the most votes counted.
Polls
Poll averages use public polls from VoteHub (CC BY 4.0) that ended in the final 30 days, weighted by the square root of sample size. Internal campaign polls are left out. These are averages, not forecasts or win probabilities.
